Our passions

Outreach

By connecting with people, sharing how God has worked in our lives as well as being able to share scripture with people, we’re able to bring the story of the one who made us all to those around us, and in doing so we also become part of that story.

Whether heading to local town centres, carolling or putting on open events, we love getting to know people and ultimately trying to address the deepest needs of people, their relationship to God.

Youth work

Encouraging young people in their relationship with the Lord and equipping them as best we can for Christian life is important to us. One of the ways we do this is through our fantastic yearly conference Truth4Youth which attracts young people from all over the UK.

 What we believe

  • The bible is inspired by God and without error, providing everything we need for all matters of life and is our ultimate authority.

  • There is only one God, who eternally exists in three equal persons, the Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. They each have different roles, as shown throughout scripture. Being unchangeable, God’s is all that is good, balancing many traits such as love, justice and wisdom.

  • Both fully God and fully man, he was born to a virgin having been conceived by the Holy Spirit. Despite being tempted in all ways, he lived a life without sin, which is unique amongst all humanity.

According to the Father’s will, Jesus took God’s punishment for sinners by willingly going to the cross to be put to death, despite having done nothing wrong himself. Rising from the dead in a new kind of body, he defeated death, and having being witnessed by many, Jesus ascended to heaven to be with the Father.

Jesus currently advocates for those who believe with the Father, and one day will return to rule the earth.

  • Sent from heaven to glorify Christ and to apply his work of salvation. He convicts people of their sins, imparts spiritual life and gives a true understanding of the Scriptures. He lives within all believers, brings assurance of salvation and produces increasing likeness to Christ. He builds up the Church and empowers its members for worship, service and mission.

  • Everything that exists was created by God, as described in the scriptures. He did this miraculously, and perfectly, and the universe as he created it was only good. The perfect creation was corrupted by Adam’s choice to do wrong, which cursed everything from then on. This is why we have inherited an imperfect world, and why death exists.

  • All people are created in the image of God and have inherent dignity and worth. Our greatest purpose is to have a relationship with God which is only possible on his terms.

Human nature has been corrupted and by default people are spiritually dead, guilty and hostile to God. Because of this every person is rightly under the condemnation of God and needs to be made right with him in order to have a relationship with him.

  • Each person individually needs salvation because all have sinned, and the judgement for sin is death.

Salvation cannot be earned and is completely undeserved, but God offers it as a free and gracious gift on the basis of faith. He offers this because Jesus made it possible and because of his great love for us. All who turn away from their sin and toward Christ, believing that he died for their sin and was raised into glory have eternal life and are adopted into his family.

  • The Lord Jesus will gloriously return to raise the dead and judge the world in righteousness. The wicked will be sent to eternal punishment and the faithful will have eternal joy in fellowship with God who will make all things new and will be glorified forever.

History

The church was founded in 1662 by it’s original pastor Philip Lamb, though the congregation didn’t start meeting in the chapel at Butt Lane until 1893. Before this members met in private houses and later the Drax Hall. The chapel’s current site was donated by George James Wood of Athelhampton, built originally as a schoolhouse but later converted.
