Why do i need a saviour?

Sin is the reason
Sin is anything that puts us at odds with God, whether it’s what we do or what we think, it’s all important to the one who made us. Being created means that we have a design, and when we act outside of what we were made for it’s rebellion against God.

How this applies to us
The phrase “I’m only human” is a nice cover all that we use to lessen the responsibility of the things we do. What it really means is that we recognise that none of us are able to live perfectly, we all make mistakes and choose wrong over right at times. The bible also recognises this in the book of Romans (3:23), it says:

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

The wages of sin
We have a form of justice on earth, if you break the law you will be judged, and then sentenced. The difference here is that nothing is hidden from God, He sees every deed and even every thought. He is perfect love and perfect justice. Through sin we earn death. If it sounds extreme that’s because it is, there’s nothing more serious. The book of Romans (6:23) also says:

For the wages of sin is death…

Making it better
If you commit a crime today, will you be let off by a judge because you do good in other areas of your life? The answer is no, If you break the law you will have to serve the sentence. No amount of good deeds will ever wash away the things we have done. The book of Isaiah (64:6) puts it like this:

And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags

The good news

The way
God made it possible for us to be forgiven, all of His own doing. We don’t deserve it but He gives it to us freely as a gift, and like all gifts if you want to receive it you must accept it. The book of Titus (3:5) says:

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit

The sacrifice
Jesus, God clothed in flesh, came to live a sinless life and He suffered and died on the cross to take the punishment that we deserved. He rose again three days later defeating death! He’s the only person that’s truly never done anything but good, and He knew that He had to give over his life for us to be saved. John (3:16-18) says:

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. The one who believes in Him is not judged; the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Believe
Eternal life is yours friends, all you have to do is believe in who Jesus is and what He has done for you. Do that and you have his promise that you’ll be forgiven, and in that moment pass from death to life, born again as a new creation! John (5:24) says:

Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
